Big news Wednesday ahead of the official announcement of Seattle's expansion draft picks. It will likely leave many, if not most Montreal Canadiens fans breathing a sigh of relief.

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Kraken GM Ron Francis has decided against selecting goaltender Carey Price from the Habs. Instead, he says it's most likely the Canadiens will be losing young defenceman Cale Fleury.

TSN's Pierre LeBrun is reporting the same thing.

What we aren't sure of yet is whether Canadians GM Marc Bergevin decided to offer anything to Seattle to ensure Price was left alone. TSN's Pierre LeBrun said on Insider Trading Tuesday night that he believed Bergevin would call Seattle's bluff and tell them they can have Price or not, but nothing further would be offered.

Reports state Price himself made the offer to waive his no-movement clause for the expansion draft so fellow netminder Jake Allen could be protected. The hope was his contract and possible injuries would deter the Kraken. It appears the strategy worked.
