Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price was rumored to be possibly leaving Montreal in the expansion draft at the hands of the Seattle Kraken, but now the situation is much more cloudy.

The 33-year-old waived his no-movement clause, but it has now been released that he is dealing with a somewhat serious injury. Sources tell Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff that an MRI recently conducted by the Canadiens revealed a hip injury that may require surgery. If this is the case, Price may not be available to start the season and may miss a major portion of it.

It was apparently Price's idea to waive his no-movement clause because he did not want the Kraken to select teammate Jake Allen, with himself potentially not being able to begin the season. As tempting of a pick as Price may be for the Kraken, it seems that it would be a bad idea as his injury could prove to be more serious than previously expected.

The expansion draft will take place on Wednesday, July 21 at 10 a.m. eastern to make their 30 selections to build the NHL's 32nd franchise.
