Kyle Dubas Comments on Shocking Trade Rumours Surrounding the Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas has responded to rumors that the team is about to put on a 'fire sale.'
There have been plenty of rumors surrounding the Pittsburgh Penguins this year.
Earlier this week, reports emerged suggesting that Erik Karlsson was on the trade block as the team looks to get younger.
This is just one of a number of rumors surrounding the club. Now, Kyle Dubas is out to set the record straight.
Today, he made a statement in response to a specific comment made by NHL reporter Marco D'Amico, who claimed that the organization was preparing for a 'fire sale.'
Dubas did not like that comment, insisting that the core will remain together going into the future.
But to say that it's a fire sale, and we're willing to retain money on very long-term deals - you know, I understand how that stuff starts to get out and take on a life of its own, but it's not accurate. So, we've had lots of conversations. But, are we telling teams that everything must go? No, we're not."
Assuming Dubas is telling the truth, this would seem to imply that the Penguins trade deadline may be a bit more quiet that we were expecting.
A few depth pieces are likely to be moved, but it doesn't seem like Dubas is planning on another Erik Karlsson or Jake Guentzel trade.
That being said, everything is subject to change. What if the Penguins go on a run before the deadline?
Could they actually become buyers? Or perhaps the team completely implodes, moving things in the other direction. We will just have to wait to find out.
