The Utah Hockey Club are looking to rebrand in year number two, but now, a trademark has been rejected for the teams new name.

This season has been a solid one for the Utah Hockey Club, and while they may not make the Stanley Cup Playoffs in year one, the future remains incredibly bright for this organization and their young core.

One thing they need to do before achieving success however is a rebrand, as they are likely to follow in the footsteps of the Washington Commanders by changing their name in year two of the organization.

It's still unclear what the front running names are for this organization, but now we know officially what it won't be, with reporter Ryan Miller recently revealing that the name 'Utah Yetis' has been shutdown by the trademark office.

That confusion reportedly comes from the brand YETI, with the US Trademark Office revealing that simply adding Utah to the start would not differentiate themselves enough from an already well established brand.

"In the present case, the wording 'Utah' in the applied-for mark is merely descriptive of or generic for applicant's goods. Thus, this wording is less significant in terms of affecting the mark's commercial impression, and renders the wording 'YETIS' the more dominant element of the mark."

That comes as a major blow to owner Ryan Smith and the team, who all seemingly supported the name Yetis, but now, they'll need to look elsewhere as the team tries to find their identity both on and off the ice.

Early in the off-season, Smith and the organization presented a list of names that included Ice, Outlaws, Venom and Blizzard, and while none of them may have been their first choice, after this latest ruling, we may see them pivot in the coming months.
