Approximately two weeks ago, the Philadelphia Flyers made a huge blockbuster trade, sending Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, a second-round draft pick in 2025, and a seventh-round draft pick in 2028.
Kuzmenko's stay in Philadelphia is likely to be short-term, though. The Flyers are likely to send Kuzmenko, a pending unrestricted free agent carrying a salary cap hit of $5.5 million, to a different team ahead of next week's trade deadline, says NHL insider Nick Kypreos.
Kuzmenko, a former Vancouver Canucks forward, saw his Flyers debut on February 8 in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, recording one assist and finishing the game with a minus-1 mark.
In a total of 38 games this season, across Calgary and Philadelphia, Kuzmenko has tallied four goals, gained 16 points, and carried a minus-8 mark. In his last six games, he's tallied three goals with six points.
In his first year in Vancouver in 2022-23, Kuzmenko tallied 39 goals and had 74 points in 81 games. After moving to Calgary, he scored 14 goals and 25 points in 29 games.
While his offense slightly dipped this season, his earlier display of strength in his game could make him a highly useful commodity in any potential trade, especially if he is to return to such a high level of play.
The Flyers' next move regarding Kuzmenko is likely to be in the coming weeks.
