The Boston Bruins are currently outside of a playoff spot, and their top insider has just revealed that the team plans to be sellers at the trade deadline.

Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand's future is in question thanks to trading speculation that's been making ripples in media reports and a line of plugged-in insiders in the NHL.

Top Bruins insider Fluto Shinzawa was recently on a podcast called Toucher & Hardy, where he revealed the team is going to be a seller at the deadline, throwing Marchand's future completely up in the air.

What was previously highly unlikely is now in serious contention as the Bruins struggle to maintain a playoff position. Currently, they sit just outside of a position in the Eastern Conference's wild card.

The speculation gained traction when The Athletic's Shinzawa put Marchand on a list of trading chips, referencing a league source that said, "All bets are off."

With eight teams on a no-trade list that he controls, Shinzawa speculated that the Bruins would ship Marchand to a contending team in return for high-value pieces, an option that would be a win-win.

Skeptical at first, Elliotte Friedman finally begrudgingly acknowledged on '32 Thoughts' that there is likely something to be said for the speculation, as the Bruins are definitely shifting to sellers as the weeks go on.

«They have played more games than anybody else in the race,» Friedman said. «If Boston takes on water, I'm really going to be curious to see where this goes.»

ESPN's Kevin Weekes weighed in during a TSN interview on Gino Reda's show, emphasizing that Boston needs to provide a voice to Marchand regarding his future.

With Boston having just botched their PR efforts, Weekes warned that Boston needs to approach Marchand in a wide-open manner, and they need to give him a chance to make a decision.

He also speculated on destinations that would be a great fit, such as the New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Montreal Canadiens.
