Everything is going right for the Montreal Canadiens right now, and a key piece of that has been fourth-line centre Jake Evans.

Jake Evans has been fantastic for the Montreal Canadiens this season, and is on pace for 50 points as a fourth-line centre.

Evans is among the best penalty killers in the league, and has been a massive proponent of the team's push from the bottom of the standings to a wild card spot in the playoffs.

Top NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has commented on the Canadiens, who are reportedly eyeing an extension for the centre, who is on the last year of a three-year, $5.1 million deal.

Alexandre Carrier was a great addition and, as Renaud Lavoie reported, the team is working on extending Jake Evans. Both sides want something done, always a good sign.

While the asking price for Evans on the trade market could be as much as a first-round pick, it appears the two sides want to get a deal done, and that Evans has more value to the team than just a pick.

We will see if the Canadiens can continue their hot streak and make it into the playoffs; strong performances from Evans will be crucial if they are to do such.
