Following in your brothers' footsteps is not always easy, but Jordie Benn had a fantastic career in the NHL but has sadly called it quits for good after 600 games.

Jordie Benn is hanging up his skates for good. The long-time defenceman, who has played for a multitude of organizations including the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens, announced this with CHEK News' Paul Haysom out of Victoria, BC. At the age of 37, Jordie Benn retires after playing 607 games in 12 seasons.

Of course, there was nothing orthodox about the way Jordie Benn's road to the NHL unfolded. Going undrafted out of the BCHL's Victoria Grizzlies, he did get his big break in 2012 with the Dallas Stars, a team he has spent upwards of five seasons with. There, he got to play with his younger brother, Jamie Benn.

The defenseman also suited up in his career for the Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, and Minnesota Wild. His last taste of the NHL came with the Leafs during the 2022-2023 season, with him suiting up in 12 contests.

Jordie Benn spent last season playing overseas in Sweden with Brynas IF, and now closes out his career with 26 goals and 111 assists in the NHL.

Happy retirement Jordie!
