San Francisco 49ers to be put under investigation by the NFL for illegal secretive decision

The San Francisco 49ers are facing scrutiny today as one of their players accidentally leaked information during an interview that may now lead to an investigation.

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan Mason might be a candidate to work on his media training after an outing like Monday night.

The 25-year-old filled in for a sidelined Christian McCaffrey, who was officially ruled out an hour before kickoff due to nagging calf and Achilles problems. Jordan Mason didn't just fill a void, he sparkled, with 147 yards rushing and scored a touchdown in the 49ers' 32-19 win over Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets.

But with success comes more media attention, and Jordan Mason found himself in a little bit of a compromising position. Immediately following the game, he did a post-game interview with ESPN's Lisa Salters, who asked him when he knew he'd be starting. Mason said he knew as early as Friday, raising some eyebrows across the NFL since Christian McCaffrey was only officially ruled out right before kickoff.

After the game, Jordan Mason was asked the same question at his news conference and gave a different answer. The delivery sounded completely different too. Head coach Kyle Shanahan subsequently denied he told Mason in advance that he'd be starting.

What really happened is not known, but the 49ers have likely been working to iron things over and not let the situation or issue escalate. It is not known whether the NFL will investigate the matter in response to comments by Jordan Mason, but there is a high chance they do.
