Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau have passed away in a freak accident.

The longtime member of the Calgary Flames has passed away at the age of 31 following a bicycle accident in Johnny Gaudreau's hometown of Salem County New Jersey. Along with his brother Matthew, the two were in town for their sister's wedding which was set to occur today.
Johnny Gaudreau, nicknamed Johnny Hockey was the favourite player of many for his dynamic playmaking ability and even more impressive off-ice acumen. His brother Matthew Gaudreau equally made waves at Boston College, as well as in the ECHL.
Truly an incredible person and player, Johnny Gaudreau will stay in the memory of Calgary Flames fans for his electric line with Matthew Tkachuk and Elias Lindholm.
In his time with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Gaudreau established himself as a leader.
This is truly one of the most heartbreaking stories we have seen in a long time. Rest in peace Johnny Gaudreau, we will never forget you.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman released this statement following the heartbreaking passing:
«The National Hockey League family is shocked and saddened by the tragic passing of Columbus Blue Jackets forward Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew. While Johnny's infectious spirit for the game and show-stopping skills on the ice earned him the nickname ‘Johnny Hockey,' he was more than just a dazzling hockey player; he was a doting father and beloved husband, son, brother and teammate who endeared himself to every person fortunate enough to have crossed his path.»
