On the whole, hockey is an incredibly entertaining sport, especially in a live setting. While Canada still does not allow fans to attend games due to the ongoing pandemic, fan attendance has been allowed and has gradually increased in the US hockey markets, including in Washington D.C., where the Caps have opened their first round playoff series against the Boston Bruins.

As fun as a live hockey experience can be, every now and again, accidents can happen and suck the fun right out of the evening in a real hurry, as one did for a young Capitals fan on Saturday night during warm ups ahead of game one of the Caps/Bruins series.

A young girl was struck by an errant puck in the stands before the game and though she appeared to be okay, she was visibly upset over the ordeal. Though it's not exactly clear who shot the puck that ended up striking the girl, Bruins resident good guy Brad Marchand saw it all unfold and wanted to make sure that her night stood out as a special one.

As you can see in the video, Marchand had sent a member of the Bruins' equipment staff back to grab a stick and signed it for the young fan, pointing her out to another staff member who made his way over to her, cradled in who appears to be her mother's arms and handed it to her to cheer her up.

Not exactly known for his good-guy characteristics, it was a very classy move by Marchand, ensuring that the girl had something positive come out of the whole thing and I'm sure she didn't mind that the stick didn't come from a Capitals player one bit.

Hockey, man.. it's stories like this one that make you love the game just a little bit extra.
