Sabres lose yet another defenceman for an extended period of time

Things aren't going well for the Buffalo Sabres on the ice this season and it isn't just their 5-8-2 record. The team has announced another defenceman will miss significant time, marking the third blueliner to go down in just a few days.

"After further evaluation, it was discovered that defenseman Will Borgen suffered a fracture in his right forearm during our game on February 20th in New Jersey," said a release from Buffalo.

"Borgen underwent successful surgery to repair the fracture today and is expected to miss approximately 6-8 weeks."

The team announced just yesterday that defenceman Jake McCabe required surgery on his right knee and would miss six-to-eight months (you can read more about that here). Meanwhile, Rasmus Ristolainen contracted COVID-19 and told a Finnish sports outlet he has no idea when he'll play again as he suffered severe complications and was still having trouble breathing and is tired constantly (you can read more on that here).

Nothing seems to be going right in Buffalo right now. Captain Jack Eichel has two goals and 11 assists in 13 games, but has not looked like his usual self at all recently. Free agent acquisition Taylor Hall has just one goal in 10 games played. Jeff Skinner, who makes $9 million per season (AAV) has no goals and just one assist in 14 games and was recently a healthy scratch. The team appears to be headed for its ninth straight year without making the playoffs, despite having the third highest cap hit in the entire league.
