Golden Knights owner says he would have had a big problem with a Marc-Andre Fleury trade

Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley recently appeared on the "Cam and Strick Podcast", which is hosted by former NHLer Cam Janssen and St. Louis Blues reporter Andy Strickland.

While they talked about numerous interesting subjects with Foley, perhaps the most interesting topic that came up revolved around a possible Marc-Andre Fleury trade, which there were plenty rumours of this past offseason after the team traded for and then extended Robin Lehner. Despite those rumours however, it appears Foley would have made it clear he did not want the 36-year-old moved.

«There were just discussions,» Foley said. «The trades that were thrown around out there didn't make any sense to us. He never came close to being part of a deal. I would've had a big problem with it if that had been presented to me.»

This is very interesting, given that at one point it seemed like a guarantee Fleury would be on a different team heading into the 2020-21 season. It certainly isn't an ideal situation to have them both on the same team given that their salaries combine for a cap hit of $12 million. However, it has worked out great to start this season given that Lehner has had to miss some time due to injury. Fleury has been brilliant early on this season with a 1.55 goals against average to go with a .942 save percentage through 11 games.
