The New York Rangers have released a statement on Monday discussing the allegations surrounding forward Artemi Panarin. Panarin is being accused of allegedly beating up an 18-year old woman back in 2011. His former KHL coach Andrei Nazarov came forward with the allegations to a Russian media outlet, Sports.ru.

Panarin has taken a leave of absence from the Rangers in the wake of these allegations. It's unclear if these allegations are true or if this is a political hit piece trying to get back at Panarin for an Instagram post he made in January showing support for Russia opposition leader, Alexei Navalny. Either way, he has the complete backing of his team.

"Artemi vehemently and unequivocally denies any and all allegations in this fabricated story. This is clearly and intimidation tactic being used against him for being outspoken on recent political events. Artemi is obviously shaken and concerned and will take some time away from the team. The Rangers fully support Artemi and will work with him to identify the source of these unfounded allegations." the club said in a statement.
