Despite COVID-19 cases within three of the four participating teams, the NHL is still planning to go ahead with their outdoor games at Lake Tahoe according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.

The Vegas Golden Knights are scheduled to take on the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday February 20th, and the Boston Bruins will play the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday February 21st.

Currently, Philadelphia has five players on the COVID-19 protocol list including captain Claude Giroux. Colorado has three, also including their captain Gabriel Landeskog, while Vegas only has one.

Pagnotta added that the NHL has back-up plans in place which could see the New York Rangers as one of the replacement teams. A Rangers source told Pagnotta that "we are willing if needed". If the NHL is forced to change up the Bruins/Flyers game, the Rangers are scheduled to face the Washington Capitals on February 20th and 21st, so some maneuvering will be needed to make things work.

The Rangers game against Washington on February 20th would likely have to be re-scheduled in order to give the teams enough time to travel and get ready for Sunday's outdoor matinee.

The situation is still fluid, and according to a Capitals source, they have not heard anything about participating in one of the games next weekend. More information regarding the NHL outdoor games at Lake Tahoe will likely be announced in the coming days.
