Despite a solid record, things appear to be falling apart in New York, and now they've been forced into a team meeting to turn things around.

Earlier this week, shocking reports emerged from Insider Elliotte Friedmann that the New York Rangers were shopping both their captain Jacob Trouba and their longest tenured player Chris Kreider.

Given their 12-7-1 record, this came as a surprise to many, with the belief in New York being that this story was leaked to light a fire under their veterans and make sure no one on their team got complacent with their spot.

Now, according to Arthur Staple of The Athletic, GM Chris Drury has met with Kreider, Trouba and senior players on this team as they try to pull the team together after the shock news was revealed.

«A Rangers source said Drury did meet with Trouba later in the day Tuesday, as well as Kreider and other veterans, before the team flew to Raleigh. The source characterized the meetings as «honest, productive conversations.»

According to the source within the Rangers organization, things were very productive with their veteran players, and while this doesn't mean the trade speculation will quieten down, it certainly gives some context to the players involved in the rumours.

However, with the lack of elite level success given the talented core, it may be time for Drury and the front office to shake things up, and given the lack of production from Trouba in particular, it makes sense that they could still be shopping both players mentioned.

Ultimately, this meeting may have just been a way for the GM to smooth things over for now, but if the team can't spark a dominant period after this, it may eventually be time for the team to move on from at least one of their biggest names.
