NHL Journeyman Announces Retirement

As the hockey world gears up for the next season, it's a time of excitement and anticipation for players and fans alike. However, for some players, this period can be a humbling experience, as they find themselves without a contract and facing an uncertain future. Such is the case for veteran defenceman Derek Joslin, who has announced his retirement from professional hockey at the age of 36.

A Journey Through the NHL

Derek Joslin's hockey journey began when he was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL Draft. He went on to fulfill the role of a dependable depth defender in the NHL, making his debut during the 2008-09 season and playing his final two games in the league in the 2012-13 season. Joslin's career highlights include playing a career-high 44 games in a single NHL season, achieved during the 2011-12 season with the Carolina Hurricanes.

A New Chapter in Europe

Since the 2013-14 season, Joslin has been plying his trade in Europe, where he showcased his skills in the top league in Austria. He spent two seasons with VSV EC and followed it up with two more seasons with Salzburg EC, leaving a lasting impact on the European hockey scene.
Derek Joslin's career has seen him suit up for three NHL teams: the San Jose Sharks, Carolina Hurricanes, and Vancouver Canucks.
