A teammate confirms that Mats Zuccarello of the Minnesota Wild suffered a terrible injury to his nether region after being hit by a shot from his own defenseman.

Hockey injuries can often be unpleasant. This one is downright cringeworthy now that the full details have been revealed.

In a game against the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 14, Minnesota Wild star Mats Zuccarello had to leave and did not return after he was hit by a shot from his teammate, defenseman Brock Faber. It was noted he would be out for three to four weeks with a "lower-body injury."

While appearing on a local radio station this week, Zuccarello's teammate Marcus Foligno confirmed that Zuccarello required surgery for a ruptured testicle.

"We thought he was going to lose one nut, but it actually survived and he's got them both still," Foligno said. "Poor guy got hit where the sun don't shine and it ruptured his testicle. He can't even lift anything."

To add to the visual of the injury, Marcus Foligno said Mats Zuccarello had a "massive dent" in his cup after taking the shot from Brock Faber.

It has been confirmed earlier that Mats Zuccarello required emergency surgery for the injury. Getting the full details from Marcus Foligno definitely makes you feel for the guy.

Given the nature of the injury, three to four weeks doesn't seem so bad. Mats Zuccarello has been off to a great start for the Minnesota Wild with 6 goals and 14 points in 16 games. Hopefully, he can continue where he left off on his return.
