After locking down Auston Matthews and picking up some key free agents, it appears that the Maple Leafs offensive lineup is set for the near future, but as we've seen all pre-season, there's room for players to push their way into the lineup.

Talented young prospects

Through training camp and the pre-season, we've seen the likes of Matthew Knies and Fraser Minten both earn their way into more minutes and a potential role for Toronto going forward, but one player that hasn't had such luck is Nick Robertson.
The former top prospect in Toronto has had his struggles staying healthy, but now that he is, many believed this summer was his time to force his way into a genuine top-nine role with Toronto.

Disappointment

Unfortunately, that's just not happening to this point, and now, top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed that trading the former second-round pick could be a genuine option.
Elliotte Friedman on 32TP: «The one thing I wonder about here is Robertson. If he doesn't make the team, I'm wondering if they're just going to have to find somewhere else to give him a fresh start, because I think Gregor is gonna get signed.»

With Noah Gregor's PTO potentially paying off in a contract with the Leafs, there's just no room for Robertson, and if they don't believe he can crack the roster this year, a trade makes sense, so keep an eye on this space.
