The Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League has announced it will not be signing controversial defenceman Mitchell Miller to a contract for the upcoming season. The Sting own the rights to Miller should he ever play in the OHL after drafting him in the fourth round in 2017. However, general manager Dylan Seca has no plans to sign him.

"We are not actively inquiring about his status,” Seca said. “I think we're going to let Mitch and his family and his agent decide on their own what the best path for his player (and) hockey development is. But I think it's safe to say at this point it's not something that's on our radar.”

Seca would not say whether Miller, his agent or his family have reached out to Sarnia in an attempt to see if he could play there next season.

“I'm sure he's focusing on himself and what he needs to do for himself,” Seca said. “It's not something that we're considering or pursuing.”

Miller was recently selected in the fourth round of the NHL draft by the Arizona Coyotes but the team later renounced his rights after Miller's past was made public. Miller and a friend were convicted of bullying and assaulting Black, develomentally disabled teenager Isaiah Myer-Crothers four years ago. Court papers speak of beatings, racial slurs and forcing Meyer-Crothers to lick candy that had been wiped in a urinal.

Miller was recently linked to the KHL by a Russian website, although no official announcement has been made. He was also recently dropped by the University of North Dakota's hockey program. He will be allowed to continue his studies at the school.
