Rangers and Brendan Lemieux's demands to arbitrator revealed

The New York Rangers are currently in arbitration with forward Brendan Lemieux. NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the Rangers are asking for a two-year deal at $950,000 for the first year and $1.075 million for the second. Lemieux, on the other hand, is asking for $2 million.

Lemieux, who is the son of former NHLer Claude, played in a career high 59 games this past season. In those 59 games, he recorded six goals and 18 points, along with 111 penalty minutes. He was only able to suit up for one of the Rangers' three play-in games versus the Carolina Hurricanes due to a suspension, and failed to hit the scoresheet.

While Lemieux is never going to be a flashy offensive player who commands a large salary, he is still a valuable NHL player. He is a physical forward who has the ability to get under opponents' skin, and is not afraid to drop the gloves. The former Buffalo Sabres second-round pick (31st overall) at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has played in 131 career regular season games between the Rangers and the Winnipeg Jets. In those 131 games, he has amassed 19 goals and 36 points.
