Anthony Duclair surprisingly was not re-signed by the Ottawa Senators earlier this offseason, but that does not mean that the Senators didn't offer him a good contract.

According to TSN reporter Brent Wallace, the forward decided to represent himself in negotiations, and he declined a 3-year, $4.25 million contract offer from the Senators. It is understandable that he would want to test the market, but it is very surprising that he turned down an offer of that amount.

Duclair is only 25 years old and somewhat unproven, but he still has potential to become a perennial 30-goal scorer. Of course, he would have to be put in the right place to do so. He seemed to not enjoy playing in Ottawa, and that has been clarified mightily now.

The free agent left winger had 23 goals and 17 assists for 40 points in 66 games last season. In his young career, Duclair has scored 79 goals, while dishing out 83 assists for 163 points in 353 games played.

With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting teams across the league, he most likely will have to take a paycut to play somewhere other than Ottawa. Chances are that he will sign a short term contract with an AAV between $2-$3.5 million. He will provide a nice scoring touch to the lucky team that signs him.
