The Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan shared an update on Sidney Crosby's injury and an insider revealed what it meant for his 4 Nations Face Off status.

Earlier this week, Sidney Crosby had to momentarily leave a game against the New Jersey Devils following an awkward collision with Luke Hughes and Erik Haula.

Even though he seemed fine after coming back from the locker room, his absence from the team practice a day later caused many fans to worry.

This time, not only Penguins fans could be anxious about Crosby's status, but also all Canadian fans.

With the 4- Nations Face-Off starting next Wednesday, Team Canada will need its captain ready and healthy.

Now, a big announcement was made regarding tonight's game.

Indeed, Mike Sulivan confirmed that Crosby won't take part in tonight's game against the New York Rangers, but did spend some time on the ice today.

Per Elliotte Friedman:

The renowned Frank Seravalli later talked about Crosby's injury and Team Canada's approach to his recovery.

Read Seravalli's comments below:

"Team Canada is cautiously optimistic, I would say, that the captain will be in the lineup six days from now when the puck drops on the 4 Nations between Team Canada and Sweden in Montreal.

The belief is that this is a left wrist injury and a bit of a mixed bag for Crosby on Thursday. He did skate but did not do much shooting, as he was on his own on a separate ice sheet from the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was receiving passes, seemed to be skating just fine.

But after getting crunched, it's important to keep in mind that left wrist. In September 2021, he had surgery and had some plates inserted there.

Not a prediction, but as we look forward toward this weekend, the Pittsburgh Penguins have back-to-back games.

Don't be surprised if Sidney Crosby does travel. It is the Penguins' father's trip. His dad is already in town and ready to go on the trip and rests up before Wednesday's Four Nations face-off opener.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Team Canada know how much Crosby means to this tournament, and he's trying to gear up."
