Speaking on his "31 Thoughts" podcast, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman said he believes rumours of the Tampa Bay Lightning considering trading Steven Stamkos are in fact true.

“I believe Tampa has gone to Stamkos and asked him if he would waive,” said Friedman.

While this rumour was going around just days after the Lightning won the Stanley Cup, many believed they were false. However, having a well-known insider like Elliotte Friedman say this makes it seem much more likely. Though it is crazy to think general manager Julien BriseBois would trade arguably the greatest player in franchise history, however given the salary cap situation along with Stamkos injuries over the years certainly makes it a possibility.

Stamkos has been with the Lightning organization since they selected him with the first overall pick at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Despite struggling to stay healthy in his career, he has still been everything and more the Bolts could have hoped for, putting up 422 goals and 832 points in 803 career regular season games to this point. Unfortunately, he was only able to play a few shifts in this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs due to injury, but made the most of it, scoring a goal on his only shot of the game. The 30-year-old had 29 goals and 66 points in 57 games this season.
