The famous New York Rangers journalist Larry Brooks proposed a shocking trade involving Alexis Lafrenière in a recent paper.

Only a few months after signing his first long-term NHL contract, Alexis Lafrenière could already be moved to another organization, according to a new report from Larry Brooks.

Rangers general manager Chris Drury made a massive long-term commitment to Alexis Lafrenière when he signed him to a seven-year, $52.15 million contract back in October.

Since then, Lafrenière has been having issues on the ice, like the rest of his team, but still managed to score 32 points in 55 games.

According to Brooks, Drury should look into trading Lafrenière to the Anaheim Ducks in return for Trevor Zegras.

Here's what he wrote in a recent paper:

"I'm not sure I would do this-I would need a little more information on the other party-but I am sure that if I were Rangers GM Chris Drury, I would seriously look into it.

I would look into trading Alexis Lafrenière to Anaheim for Trevor Zegras.

This would be the 2020 No. 1 overall for the 2019 No. 9 overall. This would be trading one 23-year-old forward who has not come close to satisfying expectations for another 23-year-old forward who has not come close to satisfying expectations.

Five years into Lafrenière's career, and six years into that of Zegras, which has been interrupted by a pair of serious injuries, wouldn't you agree that each player has a greater chance to reach his ceiling by moving to a new zip code?"

Zegras has also been having difficulties on the ice, but at a whole new level. He was limited to only 32 games due to injuries this season and only scored 15 points.

It's safe to say the Rangers would be losers in that trade. Lafrenière hasn't been injured in his career, while Zegras is much more at risk of getting injured.

It's true that both players could benefit from a change in scenery, but the Rangers wouldn't benefit at all from acquiring Zegras at that price.

Would you make that move?
