Defenceman Troy Stecher has found a new home. After not receiving a qualifying offer from the Vancouver Canucks as a restricted free agent, the 26-year-old hit the open market and signed a new two-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings. The contract is worth $1.7 million per season (AAV).

Stecher, a native of British Columbia, has been a mainstay on the Canucks blue line for four seasons. In 2019-20, he had a career-high five goals, with 17 total points and a plus-10 rating. He was never drafted, instead signing an entry-level deal with the Canucks as a free agent out of the U.S. college hockey system.

The Red Wings have been busy the last couple of days, also signing free agent forward Bobby Ryan, defenceman Jon Merrill and goaltender Thomas Greiss.
