Former Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie has found himself a new home in free agency on Saturday, reportedly joining the Edmonton Oilers on a 1-year deal worth $3.75M.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, Barrie and the Oilers have struck a deal that would bring the 29-year-old back to the Western Conference for the 2020-21 season.

Barrie, a power play specialist during his time in Colorado, had struggled mightily to fit into the picture in Toronto under head coach Mike Babcock. The right-shot defenseman was able to find a little more life when Sheldon Keefe took over as head coach in November of 2019, managing to reach 39 points in 70 games in Toronto, despite having a notoriously slow start.

Barrie should fit in nicely in Edmonton, as the Oilers have been in dire need of a power play quarterback. Though he was limited to just 12 power play points in Toronto in 2019-20, partially due to the fact that he and Morgan Rielly split time on the first PP unit, the Victoria, BC native tallied 55 points with the man-advantage over his previous two seasons in Colorado.

According to TSN's Frank Seravalli, Tyson Barrie left some money on the table to join the Oilers, as rumour has it there was another team in the mix believed to have offered Barrie as much as $6M AAV.
