The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed former Calgary Flame T.J. Brodie to a four-year contract that will pay him $5 million per season.

Brodie, 30, has spent the last nine seasons playing for the Flames, and has been a part of the organization since they selected him in the fourth round (114th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He had a very solid run as a Flame, playing 634 regular season games while posting 48 goals and 266 points. He has also played in 30 career playoff games, putting up 15 points.

While the money and term may be a little higher than many expected, the fact is the Leafs need defencemen and Brodie is a solid addition to their team. In 64 games this past season with Calgary, he had 19 points while averaging 20:27 in ice time per game.
