Oilers loan veteran forward to Denmark

The Edmonton Oilers announced today that they have loaned veteran forward Adam Cracknell to Esbjerg Energy in Denmark's highest league, the Metal Ligaen. He will return to the Oilers prior to the start of 2020-21 NHL training camps.

Cracknell, 35, was drafted in the ninth round, 279th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2004 NHL entry draft. In 210 regular season games, he's put up 43 points (21 G, 22 A), 46 penalty minutes and is a +3. In 10 career playoff games, Cracknell has 1 goal, 2 penalty minutes and is a -1. Cracknell has played with St. Louis, Columbus, Vancouver, Edmonton, Dallas, the New York Rangers, and Anaheim.

He spent the 2019-20 season with the Kunlun Red Star in the KHL where he had 24 points (10 G, 14 A), 16 penalty minutes and was a +1. Cracknell signed with the Oilers on September 10th to a 1-year contract worth $700,000 at the NHL level and $350,000 at the AHL level.

We've seen plenty of players being loaned all across Europe, but this may be the first loan to the Denmark league we've seen since the loaning spree began over a month ago. Denmark's Metal Ligaen has some pretty good hockey, while it's not up there with the likes of the SHL and Liiga, it still provides some high quality hockey. The league was founded in 1954 and consists of nine teams. Some prominent names to come out of the league include Frederik Andersen, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Frans Nielsen.
