According to Carolina Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell, the team is unsure at this point as to whether or not forward Justin Williams will return for the 2020-21 season.

“Ask Justin,” is all Waddell had to say when asked by media whether or not the 38-year-old would be returning next season.

Williams sat out for a large chunk of last season mulling retirement, before making the decision to rejoin the team in early January. He proved that despite both his age and the time off that he is still able to play at the NHL level, posting an impressive eight goals and 11 points in 20 regular season playoff games. Unfortunately, he struggled in the postseason with just one goal in seven matches, but having yet another long layoff prior to the playoffs due to the COVID-19 pandemic likely didn't help.

Waddell also went on to add the team is in daily talks with RFAs Warren Foegele and Haydn Fleury's agents and is confident they will get deals worked out soon. He mentioned that the team has yet to discuss a possible extension with defenceman Dougie Hamilton, as they are waiting to see what happens with the market value post-COVID.
