It appears the Edmonton Oilers are out of the race to land Oliver Ekman-Larsson from the Arizona Coyotes. Rumoured to be one of the teams most interested in trading for the defenceman, TSN's Darren Dreger is now saying it's a no-go.

"Things are believed to be intensifying in Arizona on the OEL front, however, unless something changes, the Oilers have been told they're not on the short list of teams OEL will waive his trade protection to go to," said Dreger.

It seems odd that Ekman-Larsson wouldn't be interested in playing with two of the best players in the league right now in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, but here we are. According to Rick Dhaliwal of TSN, Calgary has also been ruled out, although it's not known if the team had been making a serious push like Edmonton.

Dreger had recently said one of the other teams making a push to land Ekman-Larsson was the Boston Bruins. It's a little difficult to understand why Boston would choose to let Torey Krug walk to free agency and trade for Ekman-Larsson, whose current contract has a cap hit $8.25 million for the next seven seasons, but they may come to light later on.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Vancouver is included on Ekman-Larsson's trade list.

The 29-year-old has a full no movement clause, meaning he must waive it before a trade takes place in order for it to be valid. It also means he cannot be placed on waivers or sent to the minors.
