The Columbus Blue Jackets have been a pleasant surprise thus far in 2024/25, and now it appears they may bolster their roster with a Gustav Nyquist trade, with interest in the veteran confirmed by a top insider.

Many expected the Columbus Blue Jackets to be a contender for the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NHL Draft this season, but through the emergence of some young stars and immense chemistry, this team finds themselves within striking distance of a Stanley Cup Playoffs spot.

With the trade deadline approaching, that could mean that they are officially in the buyers market, with former Blue Jacket Seth Jones suggesting recently that he'd be open to a reunion via trade.

Now, reports have emerged that they are interested in a reunion via trade, but not with Jones as of yet, as Aaron Portzline of The Athletic has suggested they could be motivated to land former Blue Jacket Gustav Nyquist.

The 35-year old is in his second season with the Nashville Predators, and with the injury to Sean Monahan causing depth issues down the middle for Columbus, a cheap veteran like Nyquist may ultimately be the move.

At 35-years of age, Nyquist has produced 9 goals and 20 points just 12 months after putting up 70 for the Predators, and if the Blue Jackets are still in the race when the deadline rolls around, expect them to be aggressive in pursuing the familiar face.

On top of being a solid addition, Nyquist could be a solid veteran presence for a centre group that's currently led by Adam Fantili and Cole Sillinger, and if the team could get him and get Monahan healthy, it's safe to say that optimism would be high for a potential playoff run this season.
