"It's definitely different, a little tough to think about. I grew up here, been here my whole career. It'll be different, but I'm excited. Change is always good. I'm excited to see what happens." Lewis said about hitting free agency.
Lewis wants to join a contender and adds that geography isn't a factor, he's open to moving East if that's the best opportunity. https://t.co/lQ2axqnkVK— David Pagnotta (@TheFourthPeriod) September 26, 2020
Lewis, 33, was drafted in the first round, 17th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2006 NHL entry draft. In 674 career games, he has 163 points (70 G, 93 A), 171 penalty minutes and is a -43. In 79 career playoff games, Lewis has 23 points (11 G, 12 A), 20 penalty minutes, and -4. He won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014.
Internationally, Lewis has represented the USA on a couple of occasions. At the 2007 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships, he had 2 points (1 G, 1 A) and 2 penalty minutes in 7 games, as the Americans won the bronze medal. At the 2015 IIHF Men's World Hockey Championships, Lewis was named an alternate captain. In 10 games, he had 9 points (3 G, 6 A) and 6 penalty minutes as the USA won bronze.
Wherever Lewis lands, he brings plenty of playoff experience, and he could be very useful on a young team such as the Canucks. While he may not put up a lot of points, his experience alone should make him an interesting option on the free agency market for a number of teams, and one of the reasons he'll likely find his new home fairly quick once October 9th hits.
