The Toronto Maple Leafs just signed Max Domi to a one year deal, yet it appears the two parties are already in contract extension talks.

Domi Wants to Stay a Leaf

According to a report by trusted NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Max Domi would like to stay a Toronto Maple Leaf for a long time.
Domi has had a hard time finding a consistent NHL home over the past few years, but perhaps a chance at redemption with his fathers' former team could be the perfect spot to settle down.
"Max Domi, he wants this to be his NHL home for a long time, he wants to be a Leaf, he's got the bloodlines to be a Leaf, he'll do anything to stay a Leaf. He never wants to leave here, it's a powerful motivator and that's a major reason he's here and they wanted him."

While Domi's interest seems clear, we're not sure how the Leafs feel just yet.

Domi Needs to Prove Himself

While we're sure the Leafs would love to have a player like Max Domi long term, he'll first need to prove he's worthy of such a contract.
It's unlikely that Brad Treliving will even engage in contract talks with Domi before seeing a sizable sample of his play with the Leafs. Only then, should we expect the two parties to discuss an extension.
While this may not be as quick as Domi wants it to be, it still provides a path for him to stay in Toronto long term.
