The sniper does have a chance to return later in the series.
"He's not going to play, but we haven't ruled him out for the series," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "But he's not going to play tonight."
Stamkos returned after a lengthy absence in Game 3, in which he scored a goal in just 2:47 of ice time. The forward only played 5 shifts, and skated on the fourth line with Patrick Maroon and Cedric Paquette. It was the first time he has played since February 25.
Stamkos had surgery to fix a core muscle injury during March, and he missed the last 7 games of the regular season. Before getting injured, he was second on the Lightning in points 66 (29 goals, 37 assists) in 57 games, trailing just Nikita Kucherov (85 points, 33 goals, 52 assists) for the team lead.
Considering Stamkos returned for Game 3, expect him to be back in the lineup for any potential cup winning games. The Lightning currently lead the series 2-1 going into Game 4 tonight.
Per Coop, Steven Stamkos is not ruled out for this series but he will not play tonight in Game 4. #TBLvsDAL— Tampa Bay Lightning (@TBLightning) September 25, 2020
