Former NHLer Bobby Ryan, who spent parts of seven seasons playing for the Ottawa Senators, is not too pleased with a reporter covering the team. With the Senators set to take part in the Global Series with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, and Minnesota Wild in Europe in November, Ottawa Sun reporter Bruce Garrioch recalled the last time the Sens went overseas to play hockey, which he believes had a ripple effect on the entire season.

"The reason the Sens were so bad after returning from Sweden is Guy Boucher was so convinced he and the players were exhausted they essentially quit practicing. Rest was no weapon. That's why the year went off the rails," said Garrioch on Twitter.

He's referring to 2017 when Ottawa also took part in the NHL's Global Series. After making the conference finals the year before, the Senators had a terrible season, missing the playoffs and essentially starting a new rebuild process. Boucher would be fired the next year. Despite that, Bobby Ryan, who played with the Senators that year, responsed to Garrioch telling him that's not the way it happened.

"WTF are you talking about, Bruce?" Ryan responded.

Garrioch replied to Ryan telling him not to be like his co-hosts on a podcast he currently participates in. Ryan wasn't done.

"Not sure which one you're talking about as I tell them both daily they are knobs but don't say something that asinine when I can name about 5 things that mattered more during that season," Ryan clapped back.

While the "rest is a weapon" philosophy employed by Boucher likely didn't help, some of the main issues with the team that season was a growing locker-room split that featured Erik Karlsson, Mike Hoffman, and their spouses. Melinda Karlsson eventually received a protective order against Hoffman's longtime partner.
