Avalanche's Cale Makar had a major reduced to a two-minute minor after a questionable hit on Jared McCann, early in game four against the Kraken.

Questionable or Just Plain Dirty?

8:24 into the first period, Makar caught McCann with a very late hit after the puck had gone over the glass. It wasn't from behind or in the head, but it appeared to be an unnecessary hit on an unsuspecting opponent.

The referees originally called a major penalty on the star defender; however, after review, they deemed it was only worth a two-minute minor. While McCann had to be helped off the ice by teammates, left the game and did not return.

Postgame, Makar was asked about the hit, and according to Peter Baugh of The Athletic, he thought maybe McCann had the puck.

''I didn't feel like I tried to finish him that far. I feel like if I was in that scenario, they would have done the exact same thing. I'm not trying to hurt anybody.''

It has now been confirmed that Makar will meet with the department of player safety

We will have to wait and see what the consequences to his actions will be.
