The timing couldn't have been worse, but the show must go on. Just moments after leaving the ice following their toughest loss of the season the Pittsburgh Penguins had to come back out to the ice and take part in Fan Appreciation Night by throwing prizes into the stands.

There were very few smiles from either side of the glass, as fans had just watched their team's playoff hopes get crushed by the Chicago Blackhawks, a club that's been out of the running for a while. But, that's the way things go sometimes, and I'm guessing participation wasn't optional.

If the Penguins had won this game, they'd still be in the playoff race. However, this loss, combined with a win by the New York Islanders Wednesday night, means Pittsburgh has missed the post season for the first time in 16 years.
