Life after you hang up your skates can be extremely difficult for some hockey players, especially those that played in the National Hockey League. One former NHLer is using his dark past for good all while enjoying life after the NHL.

Brent Sopel who hoisted the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks went to a dark place after he hung up his professional skates, but is now using it for the better.

Sopel was far from the best player on the ice during his time In Chicago, but he made space for the stars to go to work as a stay at home defender is supposed to .

After struggling with addiction and mental health issues following his career, Sopel founded the «why» program that helps young players with their mental health all while continuing to enjoy the game they all love.
