A scary situation occurred during an MHL Playoff game on Monday between Loko-76 Yaroslavl and Chaika, as a player suffered an apparent head injury and was allowed to continue playing.

The Yaroslavl player was hit into the boards on the numbers, but it was his head that took the brunt of the contact. He fell to the ice and attempted to get back up, but while skating back to the bench, he lost his balance and needed to be dragged onto the bench by the team's trainer. There was no call on the play, but that's the last thing that was the issue in this situation.

Dmitri Yabelov, the player who suffered the hit, was not removed from the game by a concussion spotter or the team's training/medical staff and he returned to the ice for the second period.

Head injuries need to be dealt with extremely carefully and it seems that hockey has a long way to go before such injuries are treated with caution. We all hope that Yabelov has a quick recovery and that he's back on the ice as soon as it is safe to do so.
