It will only be a matter of time until new ownership takes over the Ottawa Senators. The new owners are expected to pay in upwards of $900,000,000 for the Canadian franchise. But while the purchase price is high, current ownership will have a large debt to pay off once the deal finally closes.

During the 2nd intermission of the HNIC broadcast on Saturday, Ron MacLean revealed on the amount of debt the Senators owe. According to some it could be as much as $450,000,000.

It has been widely known that long-time owner Eugene Melnyk has been bleeding money for quite some time on the franchise. Melnyk purchased the Senators and was able to save the team from relocation while they were at their lowest. But there was obviously a significant cost of doing so.

Hopefully a new owner, a downtown arena and some great young talent is enough to bring the Senators back to being competitive.
