Penguins place pair of players on waivers

The waiver wire was fairly active on Tuesday afternoon with the news of the Ducks claiming defenceman Scott Harrington from the New Jersey Devils.

According to Chris Johnston of TSN, the Pittsburgh Penguins have placed forward Brock McGinn and defenceman Mark Friedman on waivers for the purpose of AHL assignment.

McGinn, 29, is in his second season with the Pittsburgh Penguins after signing with them in the summer of 2021. In 59 games this season, McGinn has 15 points (ten goals, five assists), 21 penalty minutes and is a minus-one.

The Fergus (Ontario) native has two years remaining on his contract beyond the 2022-23 season with a cap hit of $2.75 million.

Friedman, 27, has split time between the Penguins and their AHL affiliate this season. In 11 games for Pittsburgh, he has one goal, 11 penalty minutes and is a plus-one. Friedman is under contract for one more year after this season with a cap hit of $775,000.
