In Cale Makar's first game back from a concussion, he was forced out of Saturday's contest against St. Louis by a spotter after a collision with Blues forward Alexei Toropchenko.

Makar missed the previous four games after sustaining a concussion on February 7th against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Makar was initially injured after a questionable play from Jeff Carter. From the Avalanche perspective, it was strictly a dirty play. To most others, the jury is still out.

Makar returned to he game, playing a total of 21:27 of ice-time; an encouraging sign for the Avs. Understandably, no one there wants to risk inflicting long-lasting damage onto Makar's noggin, so Colorado is going to take every precaution.

Makar on if he plans to play on Sunday night: "Yeah, I hope so. Unless anything turns. Just a tough one. I got kind of bruised on the nose just because I think my visor hit it. But we'll see."

Head coach Jared Bednar chalked the whole incident to a bloody nose.

"He went off and just got looked at real quick. Checked out the nose and then he was back. So, no real problems coming out of that, which is good."

The Avalanche take on the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday in Denver. As stated, Makar intends to play, barring any setbacks. Colorado currently holds the 3rd spot in the Central Division behind Dallas and Winnipeg, one win ahead of Minnesota who holds the second Wild Card.
