The Columbus Blue Jackets turned some heads earlier this week when they announced that defenceman Vladislav Gavrikov would be a healthy scratch against New Jersey for 'trade-related reasons'. Gavrikov is expected to sit once again on Thursday night as the Blue Jackets host the Winnipeg Jets.

Columbus is reportedly seeking a first-round pick as part of the return for the Russian blueliner, much like they got for David Savard in 2021 and the Montreal Canadiens got for Ben Chiarot last year.

There have been several teams that have shown interest in Gavrikov in the past couple of weeks, but according to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Boston Bruins are the front-runner to land his services.

"Sources indicate the Boston Bruins are the front-runner for Gavrikov's services, but they are not alone." Seravalli said.

Gavrikov, 27, is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and reports have indicated that last month, the Blue Jackets have allowed his agent to talk about a contract extension with interested teams.

In 52 games this season, the Yaroslavl native has ten points (three goals, seven assists), 30 penalty minutes and is a minus-eight.
