One day after releasing their final roster for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, the United States have named their leadership group for the tournament.

New Jersey Devils 2021 first round pick Luke Hughes will captain the team. The 19-year-old will be appearing in his second World Junior Hockey Championship after helping the United States to a fifth place finish in August, putting up six points in five games along the way.

Colorado Avalanche prospect Sean Behrens and Detroit Red Wings prospect Red Savage will serve as alternate captains for the tournament. Behrens appeared in one game for the U.S. in August, while Savage had three points in five games.

"We've got a terrific leadership group with Luke, Sean and 'Red,'" said U.S. coach Rand Pecknold. "We know they'll use their experience and voice to help us in our ultimate goal of winning the gold medal. And while those three will be the ones wearing the letters, ultimately everyone has a role in leading this team."

The United States will open up their 2023 World Junior schedule on Boxing Day (Dec. 26th) at 5 p.m. Atlantic/4 p.m. ET.
