The Anaheim Ducks have a big decision to make with one of their young stars, Trevor Zegras, who is set to become a restricted free agent next summer.

They could either decide to lock him up long-term, which is ideal for what the team is trying to build, or if Zegras is looking to maximize how much money he earns, he could sign a bridge deal and wait for a few years for the salary cap to go up significantly.
Either way, it doesn't sound like the two sides have started negotiating a new contract, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period. Pagnotta mentions that Zegras has the same agent of Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield, with the latter already beginning contract extension talks.
"(The Canadiens are) in discussions with (Caufield's) agent Pat Brisson, who has another really good young player up for a contract, Trevor Zegras in Anaheim," Pagnotta said. "They haven't started yet. Looks like Cole Caufield might get ahead of things in that regard."

Zegras, a native of Bedford (New York), has had a strong start to the 2022-23 season. In 16 games, he's put up 15 points (seven goals, eight assists), 18 penalty minutes and is a minus-one.
What should the AAV look like on Zegras' next contract? Let us know your thoughts in the poll below!
