Three-time Stanley Cup champion officially signs in Sweden, ending his retirement

Nearly three weeks ago, HV71, a team in Sweden's top division, announced that three-time Stanley Cup champion Niklas Hjalmarsson would be ending his retirement and begin training with them.

Flash forward to November 10th and Hjalmarsson is officially returning to professional hockey and has signed with HV71 for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

Hjalmarsson, 35, spent parts of 14 seasons in the National Hockey League with the Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes. In 821 career games, Eksjo native had 172 points (25 goals, 147 assists) and 332 penalty minutes. As mentioned, Hjalmarsson won the Stanley Cup three times, all as a member of the Blackhawks, with those championships coming in 2010, 2013 and 2015.
The Eksjo native will make his 2022-23 debut with HV71 on November 24th against Skelleftea.
