Martin Brodeur - New Jersey Devils legend - earned a shiny new title today that will make him a critical component of the team's executive staff for years to come. Up until now, Brodeur held the position of adviser to hockey operations and liaison to 'the business side' on an interim basis. Now that the team is seeing light success to start the '22-23 season, the club clearly feels Brodeur - an icon in the team's past - is critical for the future.

Per a team release, Brodeur's new position - titled Executive Vice President, Hockey Operations - has him overseeing any and all hockey operations decisions along with GM Tom Fitzgerald and the rest of the executive staff.
"Brodeur will continue to work with the Devils Hockey Operations group on improving all aspects that touch the organization including development, personnel decisions, roster management, transactions, player recruitment, and overseeing the goaltending development department that he created. In addition, and as part of his new appointment, he will also expand his role to scouting."

In 22 NHL seasons (21 with New Jersey), Brodeur won a record 691 games with career stats of 2.24 GAA and .912 SV%, including an NHL record of 125 shutouts. In 205 career playoff games, Brodeur boasts a 113-91 record with a 2.02 GAA and .919 SV% with 24 shutouts. His elevated play in the postseason anchored all three of the Devils' Stanley Cup Championships, in 1995, 2000 and 2003. He played a critical role in the club's five Eastern Conference titles, and 17 total playoff appearances.
His is the only statue erected outside the Prudential Center, and he is one of five Devils ever to see his number retired, joined by Ken Daneyko, Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermyer, and Patrik Elias. New Jersey's past has long overshadowed its present, but the tide is slowly shifting.
Other Devils champions in/around the organization include Sergei Brylin - recently promoted from the AHL, Sergei Nemchinov - a European scout, and Ken Daneyko - color analyst for MSG Networks.
Brodeur's biggest undertaking with the Devils until now has been the infamous 'Jersey' jersey, that has had a polarizing effect online. Personally, I love this kit.
The Devils' start this season has fans buzzing, and the future is as bright as ever. With the moves the organization is making, it is hard to be anything but giddy if you are a Devils fan.
