Boston Bruins star defenseman Charlie McAvoy will be making his season debut Thursday night versus the Calgary Flames. Head coach Jim Montgomery confirmed to reporters that McAvoy would be returning to the lineup after undergoing shoulder surgery in June.

McAvoy's original recovery timeline was approximately six months, but similar to Brad Marchand and Matt Grzelcyk, he will be returning ahead of schedule. As of right now, it sounds like McAvoy will be paired with Matt Grzelcyk, but being the team's top defenseman, he will move throughout the pairings as the game goes on.

The Bruins recently lost defenseman Derek Forbort to a broken finger, so it is huge to be able to get a much needed boost to the blueline.

Boston takes on the Flames at TD Garden at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday looking to build on their impressive start to the season.
