The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced today it has fined Arizona Coyotes' forward Michael Carcone $2,027.03, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Roughing Vegas Golden Knights' forward Gage Quinney.

Carcone hit the Knights' center up high six minutes into the middle frame, drawing a two-minute minor.

Normally, a fine would not really send a message, but to Carcone -- a total of 21 NHL games -- that sum is considerably more meaningful. The action represents a further attempt by the NHL to mitigate blows to players' heads, however successful or unsuccessful they may have been thus far.
